What is the Dash?
The Dash is a 3K/5K Fun Run/Walk that starts and ends at Aquatic Park. The route takes you along the spectacular San Francisco scenery with gorgeous views. For a registration fee of $45 you become a Dasher. Raise an additional $125 (or more) and you become a "Dasher and Splasher" which means you get to also participate in our Plunge.
Well it's only the coolest party of the year, that's all. It's our Polar Plunge - Feel the Thrill of the Chill. We like to say that the Plunge is a minor inconvenience to a great party! The Plunge is not a swim. It's a quick dip in and out of the chilly waters of the San Francisco Bay. In fact, if you don’t want to Feel the Thrill of the Chill, just register as a chicken. You’ll be excused from Plunging but still enjoy all the festivities and incentive rewards that our Plungers receive. Heck you'll "bearly" notice the friendly ridiculing you'll receive by the brave water warriors who will be Plunging! Plunger or chicken, everyone who participates must raise a minimum of $125 to be a part of the festivities.
By raising a minimum of $125, in addition to the official Feel the Thrill of the Chill long sleeve Polar Plunge t-shirt, you'll be treated to a hot breakfast burrito and other breakfast treats. For those 21 years of age and older, you might enjoy a little "Courage Juice".
And let's not forget the costumes! Everyone to dress in one. Are they mandatory? No, but they sure are a huge part of the fun. Where else will you get to wear your favorite Halloween costume more than once a year?
Now if that isn't enough, let us remind you about our awards. Oh yes friends! We'll be presenting awards to the top fundraiser as well top fundraising teams in each team category. There's more and you might want to sit for this. We will be presenting best costume awards in several categories as selected by our esteemed panel of judges.
The money raised will help us continue to provide sports training and competition opportunities to the 21,250 Special Olympics athletes we currently serve, while enabling us to reach out to other individuals not yet engaged in our life-changing programs. Athletes involved in Special Olympics are empowered with self-confidence and self-esteem that carries over into their everyday lives, right in your local community. They are your family, neighbors, coworkers, friends and your classmates.
So grab your family, friends and co-workers and together let’s Feel the Thrill of the Chill!
