It's seems hard to believe but this is the 10th year that TEKsystems will be participating in the Polar Plunge to support the Special Olympics of Northern CA. On February 29th we will start off with a nice 5K run and then we will jump into the chilly San Francisco Bay to cool off! During our first year in 2011, I didn't personally know anyone that may benefit directly and it just seemed like a great cause. A few years later our daughter was born with Down syndrome and the event became even more meaningful. Although Savannah's not yet old enough to participate in official Olympic events, she was able to do a young athletes skills challenge last summer that was hosted by the Special Olympics. It was amazing to watch her and other young children feel the joy of getting cheered on by family and friends.
With your help, I am confident that I can reach my fundraising goal of $1500. It is not lost on me that many of you contribute every year and I truly appreciate the opportunity you give the athletes and their families. The funds we raise will help change the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them the confidence they need to be successful in life. Thank you so much.
I'll leave you with a Greek proverb that I was recently introduced to that really resonated with me.
"A society grows great when old men plant trees in shade of which they know they will never sit in."
