Our agency is honored to by escorting the Special Olympics Torch, "The Flame of Hope" on its journery through our community. We hope you will consider joining our team and help us raise funds for Special Olympics Nevada.
Your $25 registration fee will include a dry-fit Law Enforcement Torch Run Runners shirt that you can wear with pride when we run the Torch through our local community. But we are encouraging everyone to go the extra mile and raise a minimum of $100 which is the approximate cost of one athlete to participate in one sport season.
Did you know that Special Olympics is Nevada's largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities?
The physical run will be on Friday September 4th beginning at 0700 hours (hoping to beat the heat). Due to COVID the event is in our hands to decide upon the details. So, with that being said I have already mapped out an area for the run so that we can start and end at NHP Southern Command. I will be getting the torch so that we can run with it the whole time. I will be setting it as a 5K (3.2 miles), so all you runners out there please join to participate. In order to do so you must register ($25) which comes with a t-shirt. You can also donate some funds while registering. Follow this link to join my team. (Click on link - Register Now! - enter your info - Join a Team - Nevada Department of Public Safety)
With following the proper COVID guidelines the September 4th event will ONLY be open to the first 50 participants that sign up (by contacting me directly via email/text that they want to participate on the physical day, if you don't contact me directly and get a response it will be assumed that you want to participate virtually). Since it is a longer distance run masks will not be required, however, we will maintain at least six foot separation in between each runner. If you still want to participate, but the date and time won't work for you, you are in luck! You can complete a virtual 5k anytime from when you sign up to the end date of September 24th. What I ask is that you use a workout tracking system like Samsung Health, Fitbit, Apple Watch, etc. to track your distance and then text/email me a picture of your time/distance and a picture of you (before, during or after) run. I would like to create a big collage of all who participated. Feel free to gather a group of family or friends to join you as well. In order to receive a t-shirt ensure that you register for the run. I will be your point of contact in receiving your t-shirt.
If you aren't a runner, no worries. There is a place for you to still participate.....How you might ask? You can donate funds to our team. I have set a goal of $5,000. Each $100 raised assists one Special Olympics athlete to participate in one season of sports. The goal of $5,000 would allow 50. I would love to see us surpass this goal.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The funds our Law Enforcement personnel will raise will go a long way to ensure that Special Olympics can continue to enrich the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities at no cost to the athlete or their family.
